DESCRIPTION

Also known as PSB28_THEVB, psb28. A photosystem II (PSII) assembly factor that binds PSII during biogenesis, protecting the complex until water splitting is activated. Part of a photosystem II (PSII) assembly intermediate complex PSII-I; crystallized from a strain deleted of psbJ, it forms monomeric PSII before addition of the oxygen evolving complex. PSII-I includes 3 assembly factors not found in mature PSII (Psb27, Psb28 and Psb34). This protein binds to the cytoplasmic face of D1 and D2 (psbA and psbD), contacting CP47 (psbB) directly above the quinone b-binding site.
